woodland baby shower

it was an absolutely perfect baby shower!

i was beyond excited for this shower at doc wine bar!  it was our last one and i was going to see a lot of peeps that are special to me.

it was definitely a group effort to pull this one off.  the main masters were carol, dana, and andrea.  carol absolutely outdid herself!  she coordinated all the decor and concocted the entire theme all the way from seattle!  she, unfortunately, could not make the shower due to an amazing trip to london, she had long planned, during the same time frame!

i loved where it was held.  i only had dinner there once {with pam and marina] and never once looked at the private event space.  i only went off of what pam said that night we were at dinner, that it was a lovely space and they were very accommodating and reasonable.

i walked up to the restaurant and walked straight inside to the private room {so easy to find!  it’s right by the front entrance}.  i was greeted by friendly faces {the delightful dana was right there to say hello!} and by the cutest welcome table!  so freakin’ adorbs.

via tandeminlove.com

how cute is this?!  the bunting was handmade by carol.  she also purchased the mad about madeline collection book by ludwig bemelmans, added additional pages in the back for guests to write a lovely note to the baby!  how thoughtful!  when little heintz grows up, she can see who attended her baby shower and read all their little notes!

via tandeminlove.com

the welcome table had a cute little saying, by carol herself.  i love the creature figurine and the adorable alphabet print {i come to find out carol stole it from my pinterest board, sneaky!}!

via tandeminlove.com

table centerpieces by crafty carol!  a deer terrarium, twine wrapped mason jars, and perty flowers handpicked by dana and andrea!  so perfect!

my lovely peeps // left to right clockwise // leslie, dawn, karen, ann, jodi, kristen, and colleen!  chit chatting and enjoying their cocktails…i wish i could swig a mimosa!

i loved this…animal cookie cutters as favors!  there were snails, moose, porcupines, squirrels, deers, etc.!  and not one favor left behind after the party!

family!  from left to right clockwise // lan, kim, thuy, mom, jane, grace, lynne, and barbara // we are just missing linh in this photo!  but she was there, just dodging all the photos!

hostesses with the mostess – dana and andrea!!!!!  somehow we all coordinated our outfits!  but it was a given that dana and i would…we always end up in color coordinated clothes.  we have a long history of showing up and looking like we planned our outfits together!

this was some of the yummy, yummy food!  a variety of flatbreads to devour, fresh sweet fruit, amazing applewood bacon potato cakes, a savory wrightwood salad, hearty roasted chicken paninis, and delicious desserts!!

the delicious cake!  topper made by carol…a perfect match to the decorative bunting within the room!

via tandeminlove.com

how adorable are these?  thank you to marina and pam for concocting these fabulous mushroom cupcakes for the shower!

via tandeminlove.com

the desserts were served and we were ready to open gifts!  notice the cute bunting in the background and the lovely fireplace!  it was so cozy!

via tandeminlove.com

as you can see, i’m having a great time opening all these lovely gifts.  we received our boons bathtub from lan, bookends from dawn, a beautiful hand crocheted blanket from kristin, and the lamb rocker from tanya!

via tandeminlove.com

colleen, as part of her gift, made us a cubs build a bear!  as you can see, hc loved it so!  we received, from jane, the baby’s first christmas ornament and an adorable purple knit cap with chicest feather fascinator!  everyone loved it!

via tandeminlove.com

grace made baby h a blankie, jane made baby h a pretty quilt {i know, bad photo…the only one i had!}, andrea gave us a fashionable onsie, and dana, as part of her gift, gave us a starbucks sippy cup!  she envisioned me holding the baby with the sippy cup and a real starbucks in my other hand.  how accurate and true. 🙂

via tandeminlove.com

dana knows me so well!  she also gave us le petit prince book!  i soooo wanted this book for baby h!  it’s a beautiful pop up book to further enhance the beautiful story.  i loved, loved the cute little outfits kim and thuy gave us…the cat themed outfits are so fun!  last but not least…love the jacket ann and jodi gave us {amongst other thoughtful, useful, and cute gifts inside their packed gift basket!}.

i wish i could show all the gifts everyone gave!  everyone was so thoughtful, generous, and kind with every item they gave to baby h!

apologies for the blurry photo but i had to get a one of jaime in!  i’m so glad she was able to make it.

thank you so much to carol for executing such a perfect shower!  i am so grateful for everything that you did to help pull this shower together for baby h and how perfectly ‘me’ it was!  i loved the theme…so cute!  a big thank you to dana and andrea for pulling all the strings from seattle to chicago to make this shower happen!  it was a beautiful celebration for our baby and we are so appreciative for the amazing friends and family that we have!

halloween party

marina and corey so graciously hosted another halloween party at their maison this year!

[pumpkins by the doan’s]

as you can tell, my preggo behind is literally behind in posting!  ever since i’ve been pregnant, my posts are soooooo delayed!  but better late than never. 🙂

anyhoo, i was excited to see everyone, it’s times like these that you get to run into folks you don’t get to see very often and it’s always a good thing!

there were plenty of yummy eats, drinks, and tasty sugary treats for all!  marina is definitely the hostess with the mostess with all her delicious eats.

when we got there, i ran into jenny!  it had been awhile since i saw her, probably the last time i saw her was at marina’s purse party {and that was last year before the holidays!}.  when i saw her, i said “well, the tables have turned!”,  she was pregnant the last time i saw her but now it was me!  it was so good to catch up with her and see her beautiful little girl!  i didn’t get to capture it in the photo but her daughter was wearing the cutest little headband representing wasabi and ginger {she was a piece of sushi!}.  jenny claims she’s not crafty but she did make her baby’s halloween costume!  how adorbs!

it was actually a kid’s party as well, although you don’t see any of the cute kids in my pics! they were running around, getting all hyped up on sugar anyways!

we hung out, socialized, ate too much, and had a good ol’ spooky time!  thank you marina and corey for having us.  it was fun and fabulous.

ladies night

ladies night.

it was long overdue for a night out with my fellow friends.  it can be especially hard trying to coordinate mine and pam’s schedule to find a time to hang out!  well, miraculously it worked out so easy this time!  yay!

we were able to quickly set up a date and time to get together for dinner.  uncle julio’s it was on a thursday night.  i had a doctor’s appointment earlier in the day, which was draining, so i was a bit lackadaisical in getting out the door.  i was the last to arrive {marina said she would be late but she beat me!} and found them sitting in the corner of the restaurant.

i settled in and apologized for my tardiness!  we went straight into chit chatting.  pam and jaime bombed me with some seriously awesome news {sorry folks, i don’t mean to tease but it’s not my biznazz to share}!!!!  i almost flipped out and cried {blame my hormones, i’ve been so teary eyed these past 9 months}.  that really set the tone for the evening and the conversations were beyond fantastic the rest of the night!

the downside about uncle julio’s??  the endless amounts of chips and salsa {so stinkin’ delish!}.  i definitely ate too much!  we ordered so much food!  we had them bring more chips and dip.  we ordered blended drinks.  we ordered a large plate of guacamole.  we ordered a big plate of chile con queso.  by the time our meals came, i could hardly down anything.  i had to do the lean back pregnant pose.  well,  i got it wrapped up and it was my lunch the next day, score!

via tandeminlove.com

[heeyyy, it’s the ladies // marinam pam, and jaime //…don’t mind my bloated look, i’m just pregnant 😉 hehe]

we talked and talked and talked.  so much to discuss!  it was an absolute delight to be able to catch up with them.  much love to these dear friends!  they are such good ladies!

xoxo

good, sweet friends

it was date night with the pals!

i met up with ande, matt, and johann on a cool, weekday evening.  it started out so easy until my goose chase for a restaurant ensued!  i drove my way to lincoln park and easily found a parking spot by our restaurant of choice, sai cafe.  as i walked towards the restaurant, i noticed that the windows were all papered up like it was closed {in the end, it wasn’t closed, their sign is oddly located above a space that is closed, if you walk a little more down the block, you can see the restaurant and the entrance!}!  i thought, omg…ande had recommended this place, did she not realized it had closed down?  so, i text everyone  to let them know that we needed to find another place to eat at.  we then decided to stick with the sushi theme, they suggested kamehachi in old town.

so, i drove my way there.  found another fab parking spot and started walking my way towards the restaurant.  as i approached the space, oh em gee!  it was closed down…wtf?  i text them that the other restaurant of choice had closed down.  oy, and i was tired!  this pregger, hungry lady was tired of getting back fired upon!  i just wanted to sit down and eat!  well, i looked more closely at the window and saw that they had a sign up that the restaurant had relocated!  phew!!!  so, there i go again, i backtracked the way i came.

via tandeminlove.com

[waiting]

i was seated by the hostess and waited patiently for my party to arrive!  i ordered a mocktail of a tasty lychee beverage, yum!   it was so delicious!  i love lychee!

via tandeminlove.com

[johann]

first, ande arrived, then matt and johann and the fun began!  i love hanging out with them, it’s always so entertaining, lively, and hilarious!  they are such good people and such good, sweet friends.  the world is a better place because of people like them.

via tandeminlove.com

[ande and matt]

[some delicious desserts]

we demolished some yummy food {udon noodles for moi}, got caught up in our daily lives, and did a lot of baby talk.  they are so excited for baby h!  as usual, we practically closed down the place.  we can talk and talk and talk; we always lose track of time when we are all together.

it was time to say our goodbyes and we all scurried on our merry ways.  it was so great to be able to catch up with them and spend some quality time together! it was a happy date night with some good buddies!

timeline of the bump.

how far along?  36 weeks!  baby girl, it’s your birth month!!!  ah!  a few more weeks!  hopefully she doesn’t come too early or too late…if i’m lucky!

weight gain:  32lbs.  no weight gain since the last appointment!  phew!  i was a bit worried at the rate i was going at a few weeks ago.  i told the doc that most people gain it in the beginning and taper off near the end, but i was having the opposite effect!

maternity clothes?  same ‘ol, same ‘ol.  i haven’t purchased anything new for the pregger wardrobe.  yay!  i just wear a lot of leggings, dresses, and all my normal tops.  hc just hopes that all my clothes i’ve been wearing will bounce back to their regular shape.  hey, they might be stretched just a tad around the belly but my regular clothes are doing just fine around this baby belly!  p.s. just so y’all know, they do bounce back after the wash!

sleep:  it’s been good!  a lot more solid.  despite the big belly.  i have a body pillow and i just wedge something under the belly for support and snooze away.  so, i’m feeling a lot better and more well rested than i was months ago!  i like to credit hc for being home, it’s much more comforting.

physical state:  honestly, pretty tired.  i really thought i was going to be superwomen through this all but it’s taking me down.  i get really tired…oy.  the belly is really weighing me down.  the flights of stairs are climbed up much more slowly.  the blocks i walk seem to double in time.  i try to fight it but i can’t!  so, i am getting better sleep just in time to be tired while i’m awake!  for tummy support, i love my belly band.  it’s not the one you wear to keep your pants up but it’s like a back/belly belt that supports your body.  it helps your back and supports the weight of your belly.  it really helps out!  it’s called the upsie belly…definitely worth the purchase!

miss anything?  yes, of course!  everything i can’t have!  especially beer since beerhoptacular is this weekend!  boo.  i’m missing my sushi…endless amounts of all kinds of fish & seafood.  i know i can eat small amounts of specific types but i want to be able to just have the green light and eat it all!

baby movement:  she’s a kick boxer.  she’s getting so big, the pressure on my organs is uncomfortable!  she tenses up inside and puts so much pressure on my cervix…yowza!  she kicks out my sides, my ribs, smooshes my stomach, and rolls over my bladder all day long!  i don’t think my digestive system knows how to operate with all this crazy pressure on it.

food cravings:  pears, fruit cocktails, and pineapple.  milano cookies.  yoplait cherry yogurt.

bump status:  so big.  so achy big!  a full blown bump that feels so heavy!  the skin stretches and it hurts!  i hope i’m selling this to all the never before pregger folks out there 😉  it gets cumbersome and exhausting but inside there’s a cute little surprise waiting for us!  a perfect blend of me and the hubs.  overall, i’ll miss the bump…being pregnant!  i can’t believe it’s coming to an end.  it might be uncomfortable at times but it’s so worth it.  it’s definitely been a fun, giddy experience.  people are so different to you, being pregnant, you are like a whole other species.  it’s been amazing to see what the body can do…it’s definitely a miracle, a blessing from God.

gender reveal:  it’s a girl!  we can’t wait to meet the little bundle of joy!

bebe’s room

oh baby!

we started on the baby’s room awhile ago and i am finally sharing!  of course, it’s not done yet but it definitely has it’s roots placed for a cute little girl’s abode!  thanks to hubby charming for doing almost all the work.  as usual, i have the vision and he has the muscle and tools.  we are loving it so far, it’s a small but mighty room!

via tandeminlove.com

[getting the crib together in august]

the room was cleared out by early august {again, thanks to hc!!!!} and we had a clean slate to start with!  yay!  we purchased the crib from ikea {first things first…the babes needs a sleeping area asap!} and hubby charming went to work immediately to put it together!  hc did a lot of research on cribs…a crib is a crib is a crib, is what we learned.  anything sold in the u.s. is deemed safe by the federal government.  it all comes down to aesthetics!  you can pay $100 or $2,000 but it will all be safe for the bebe.  it’s just not the best idea to use a really old hand me down or any crib that’s old.  safety regulations change every few years and you want to make sure your stuff is up to date!

via tandeminlove.com

[putting the finishing touches on the dresser]

we bought a grey dresser.  there was  a lot of debating, should we do all white?  will buying a grey dresser not go well with other grey decor we registered for?  well, we did it.  but we were inspired by other dressers we saw {actually it was hc’s idea with my liking!}.  we decided to go with white dresser drawers to tie into the white decor.  so hc bought wood, cut out matching dresser drawers, stained them white, and voila!  i absolutely loved the results!  we then went to anthropologie and purchased pink bubble glass knobs to complete the look!

how cute!  we purchased two of these from etsy.  they were perfect!

via tandeminlove.comthe kiki doll and fluffy bunny!  and yes…I KNOW, THERE WILL BE NO TOYS, BLANKETS, OR FLUFFY THINGS in the crib once the bebe is here!!!!

via tandeminlove.com

we purchased ombre curtains from target {loooooveeeeee target!} and used two panels as the backdrop to the dresser.  i love how it looks!  it totally adds a pop of color for the room.  we debated using these really cool decals or painting but what swayed us to not do it was the possibility of it being temporary.  we might not be at our place for long, so why do all that work or spend the money if it wasn’t going to be more of a permanent situation??  so, i love how it ended up looking!

via tandeminlove.com

i absolutely love the color combo.  it’s mainly grey/white with a sprinkling of light pink, coral, and gold!  so fun!  chevron rug from pbk…thank you lariss {muwah, you’re the best}!

via tandeminlove.com

i love, love these two items {cloud pillow & johan the raccoon}!  so adorbs…a gift from my sisters!

via tandeminlove.com

the paper tassel garland!  it really ties in all the colors within the room.  love!  decorative letters {a gift from my brother, dan} from rifle paper company.  blankets from lori {love you!} and my sisters {muwah!}, from the land of nod.  the gold polka dot bedding and changing covers are also from the land of nod {thanks kt and kar…so sweet of you both!}

it’s almost done!  i’m debating on this cute, cute cloud mobile i saw online {hmmm, i just don’t want the room to be too fussy}, so we’ll seeeeee!

we LOVE our beautiful grey linen rocking chair, from PBK, {thank you dick and jane!  such loving grandparents to baby heintz already!} it was delivered a few weeks ago!!  such a critical piece for the baby’s room…i was told by many that having a rocker/glider is a must have!  we are so grateful to dick and jane for this wonderful, generous gift!

via tandeminlove.com

[this adorbs sheep rocker doesn’t fit…right now, but the latest and cutest addition to the bebe’s room!  thank you tanya!!!]

we still have a few more things coming {i know!  i know you are thinking, “how can we fit anything else into this teeny, tiny room?!”.  well, just a wee bit more and i swear and we will be done!”}.  overall the room is dunzo!  how exciting!  we started with just the core pieces {we needed to get that done months ago for peace of mind} and slowly progressed the decorating process {the second priority!} to get the aesthetics down pat.

i want to say thank you, thank you, thank you for all the wonderful gifts from our friends and family!!!!  the ones given in person and the ones so kindly sent in the mail {let me tell you, i loved getting all the lovely packages in the mail!  who doesn’t?!}.  this room wouldn’t be so cute without all of your thoughtful, generous, and heartfelt gifts!!!  we feel so grateful for the gifts you have given us…blankets, toys, books, room decor, bedding, clothes, necessities, and all items in-between for baby heintz!

baby heintz is the most grateful one of all…she’s going to be so excited to see, use, and snuggle with all the gifts & love around her!

vs shower

my lovely girls at vs so kindly threw me a shower!  it was so sweet and thoughtful of them.  it was hosted by my pretty girls, yesenia and tiffani.  they did such an amazing job!  i was very grateful!

hubby charming and i got there early, so we were instructed to wait upstairs until everything was ready!  we finally finagled our way down to a pretty decorated room!  pink streamers, fabulous centerpieces, and delicious smelling food!  they had worked so hard!  several of the girls pitched in and made some decadent desserts!

we started with the mingling and socializing, then we were given the go ahead from yesenia to dig into the tasty food {from her dad’s restaurant mario’s pizza and pasta}.  everything was so yummy!  after noshing on all things tasty, we attacked the dessert table!  em, from the wrap, made brownies…marlena made the cream cheese stuffed strawberries…it went on and on!

as we were wrapping up the dinner, yesenia started the fun games!  oh, it was hilarious to see everyone participate!  the first game was for everyone to guess how big my bump was.  wow, there were some folks out there {they shall remain unnamed!} that thought my belly was really big!!  they tore off their measurement from a roll of paper streamers and once everyone pulled off their fair share, i was asked to stand up and have everyone wrap their streamers around me.  whoever guessed the closest, of course, wins!  mutters nailed it!  she guessed the width of my belly exactly!

via tandeminlove.com

[baby bump guessing]

the next game, i had to pick three contestants – the victims were dulce, tracy, and jaime!  they had to drink all the pop from the baby bottles.  ugh!  i wouldn’t want to do that!  it was so funny to see.  jaime was so upset she had to do this!  ha!  and the winner was…dulce!!!!  the quietest ones always surprise you!

marathon

what a day!!!  it was going to be a busy, fun filled day!  we woke up early and got ready to get our silly selves to the marathon.  we took a few buses there and made a pit stop, first, at wishbone {love that place!}.  we gotta feed the pregnant belly!

i couldn’t make up my mind on what to order!  so, i asked for the biscuits and gravy and the oatmeal with fruit.  annnddd, yessss, i ate them both!!!  they were both so delicious!  it totally hit the spot.  after we ate and did some texting with friends…we were ready to meet up with a few peeps.  what a debacle it had turned into!

via tandeminlove.com

[yum]

via tandeminlove.com

[my half eaten oatmeal – brown sugar, bananas, nuts, + milk – and my biscuits and gravy]

first, we were going to meet up with marina.  she was there with her two little boys.  marina had just gotten to the marathon when we sat down to eat but by the time we were done eating, she was ready to go home!  i was like “wahhhhh?!”.  so, strike one.  we missed meeting up with marina.

so, we walked up to the 13.5 mile mark {down the street from the restaurant}.  we cheered the runners on from the sideline.  i texted pam to see where she was at…she was at the 18 mile mark!  ugh, there was no way we were able to meet up with her and ryan!  we couldn’t taxi there {too many roadblocks} and i definitely could not walk that distance to get there!  boo, strike two.

via tandeminlove.com

[the super friendly frenchie – so stinkin’ adorbs]

via tandeminlove.com

[his buddy that was chillin’ behind him – i want a black frenchie and a white frenchie!]

we then decided to walk to the finish line.  we were hoping to catch a glimpse of johnny {rich’s friend} possibly at the finish line.  we had signed up for updates on johnny as he progressed through the marathon but we were not getting any!  as we were walking towards the finish line, we started to receive texts about johnny’s progress…finally!!  but then we realized, after reading the updates, we missed him at the 13.5 mile mark!  if we had gotten the texts earlier, we could have seen johnny run past then!!!!  yuck, strike three.

via tandeminlove.com

[the groupie!]

well, johnny’s wife janice, had finally made it to the marathon!  yay!!!  she was close, by the finish line, so we were finally able to meet up with her!  she had her two beautiful girls with her and her mom!  love her mom.  we were able to hang out for a bit.  it was so good to see them and catch up!  the marathon trip ended on a very successful note!  we were able to finally meet up with at least one of the groups we had intended to see!

it was a very exhausting day overall but i’m so glad we were able to witness one of the great events in our city of chicago!  we are so proud of everyone who participated in this amazing event!  it is so moving to see all these people doing something not everyone can do!  congratulations to all the runners!

it was that time of year to get our eyes checked.  i’ve been going to custom eyes since it has opened…10 years ago!  located in the heart of wrigleyville, on southport avenue.  i use to live down the street from them for five years, after getting my eyes checked by them year after year, i couldn’t find another place!  they are so accommodating, honest, professional, nice, and sincere.  they house an amazing showcase of eyewear and sunglasses that are unique, fashionable, and chic.

so, we trekked our way to the old ‘hood.  it was a beautiful day out.  after our appointments, we chit chatted a bit with the receptionists and order our contacts.  one of the girls at the desk mentioned the new ice cream store down the street.  i had walked by it a few weeks ago but didn’t get a chance to stop in.  she told us that there was a really long line at the shop!  i thought “really?!”…of course now i was intrigued.

we walked out and decided to shop around.  we hit a few stores nearby and i had decided that i needed to try the ice cream shop as well!!!  so, we walked down the street…there was a line but not as obnoxious as before.  we waited patiently, as we were given the glorious time to debate on the flavors, accruements, and accents of choice!

how far along?  34 weeks!  getting close!

weight gain:  32lbs.  hello!  ugh, the scale is my enemy…that is why i don’t personally own one!!!  i’m bloated…water retention sucks.

maternity clothes?  still a mixture of clothing.  i haven’t purchased anything new, just recycling the old to make it new again 🙂

sleep:  it’s been better!  and so much better now that hc is home on a regular basis!  so happy over that!  it’s so much more comforting.  i am sleeping more through the night…i’m trying to do that as much as possible before the bebe comes!

physical state:  feeling great overall!  just your typical third trimester issues.  feeling heavy {super heavy}, getting a bit tired {ugh, the heavy breathing, the shortness of breath, i can’t physically do what i am use to}, and i’m amazed at how big that belly can get!  the weight really bogs me down.  hc and i walked around the city the other day {to support our friends running in the marathon} and i almost had a melt down!  i was so unbelievably exhausted, i cried.  i’m so use to being the energizer bunny…the batteries do run out!

miss anything?  yes…everything i ‘shouldn’t’ eat.  i went to a sushi restaurant the other night and i wanted to devour all that raw fish!

baby movement:  she’s getting stronger everyday!  it’s such an odd and amazing feeling.  it’s so hard to describe it to anyone who has never been pregnant!  when she is up and kickin’, she is dancing in the belly!  it’s just boom, boom, boom, against my tummy!  she, the other week, did a first:  she kicked under my ribcage and pulled it out…ouch!!  that was a bit jarring.  she is still hiccuping at least two-three times a day!

food cravings:  yogurt, milano cookies, mott’s fruit snacks, sprite zero.

bump status:  big o belly.  it’s so big and there’s a baby chillin’ in there!  it’s only going to get bigger!  people like to point out that i’m all belly but i think they just can’t see past it to truly see those big o hips o mine! 😉

gender reveal:  it’s a girl.  a sweet baby girl.
