new bed frame

it’s almost time for ellie to transition into a ‘big’ girl bed…we are hemming and hawing over when it’s the right time. for olive, we had no choice with ellie on her way but honestly, it was the perfect time for her. it really was. she was absolutely ready at 2.5 years old! now ellie has 4 more months until she hits that mark but i have a feeling it will be another couple months after that for her.

we were so excited to receive this amazing, new bed from delta children. it’s their lindsey model and it’s absolutely perfect, aesthetically, for our current decor. we weren’t sure which girl’s room we were going to put it in. like i said previously, ellie wasn’t ready…so, we felt it would be perfect in olive’s room. plus, she was adamant that we put it in her room! she saw the new bed frame being delivered and asked us if it was her new bed.

only on one condition…coming from hc. to be transparent, olive has been sleeping in our bed for over a year. yes. i said it. over a year. i really loved it. i did. previously, i have always thought…noooooo, no kids in the bed! absolutely not. nope. not gonna happen. and then it did. one night olive asked to sleep in our bed. ok…then the next night, then the next night, then…one year later and i loved every minute of it. i stared at her. i hugged her. i loved waking up next to her. it was so blissful to me. i missed sharing a bed with hc but i was a bit obsessed with olive being right next to me. but i knew it needed to end at some point. i just didn’t know when…every time we asked olive to sleep in her bedroom, she firmly said no. until the new bed frame arrived…

so, hc assembled it and voilá! a pretty bed frame that transformed olive’s room into a ‘princess’ room. her choice of word. we really love it! it looks perfect in her room, it’s well made, and olive is ecstatic over her new sleeping arrangement! we kept her old sheets and decor…i am too obsessed with her pillows to replace them, but the height and design of the frame gives her room a fun refresh!

the night her new bed was set up in her room, she was so excited to sleep in it. hc and i weren’t sure if it was really going to happen and then it did. to be honest, i cried. i did. that night, i read her a bedtime story and cried. i was super sad, like really sad. i felt like we were breaking up and i was being abandoned. i was sad to not see her sweet face first thing in the morning and get the hugs and good mornings and snuggles. it hit me hard that she is growing up and this was just another milestone that was harder on mama than on her.

anyhoo, i am super happy to have my lovely hubby right next to me. don’t get me wrong…that’s exactly how it should be but that little journey that i had next to olive every morning, i wouldn’t trade that for anything. i am so happy we were able to have that sweet moment in our lives, even if it was short {but long according to hc} lived time.

hello christmas decor

we usually decorate around thanksgiving or right after but this year we were in slow motion, at least i was. i am usually the one that ignites everything and gets things going but this year, i was lethargic and slow. so, decorating our house got off to a late start and it took us three days to finally finish! holy moly!

as we do every year, we blasted christmas music, imbibed some beverages, and had a jolly good time decorating. since it was taking us forever to decorate, each day was filled with silly little obstacles! hc broke a bunch of stuff off the mantle one night, we didn’t have the right screws to hang the garland on the outside frame of the front door, and we struggled to find some of our decor from last year. ha! so bananas!

well slowly but surely, we got it done! it always feels great to see your abode deck out in holiday gear! the only part that makes me very sad is when we take it down. ok, ok, i won’t mention that again! anyhoozle, i love christmas and i love decorating and i love everything that goes with it! baking cookies, seeing the city all decked out, holiday parties, seeing santa, drinking hot chocolate with marshmallows, oh the list goes on and on!

olive had a great time decorating. it was so cute to watch her, she was amazed by the ornaments. it was hilarious to watch because she would put ornaments on the tree but then she would take them off and put them back into the box. haha! she did very well though. she is always such a great helper and loves to participate in everything. she’ll say, “i help! i help!”. i love it!

once we finished all the trimmings around the house, the tree was our final stop, we decorated it with all our fun ornaments, and olive helped put the star on top of the tree with her dada. it was sooooo cute! she knew what she had to do and she tried and tried to reach for the branch but she was just a few inches too short so hc helped her out and got that star situated and pretty! ta da! our christmas decorating was dunzo! woot woot!

it was definitely a team effort and now our house feels christmassy and pretty! i love the smell of fresh pine, scented candles, and the pretty glow of lights all around! olive was such a fantastic helper, i love how this will be her third christmas but the first one where she is so interactive and is able to really enjoy the whole process. it’s pretty awesome.

well, merry merry everyone! we hope your house is warm, cozy, festive, and fun like ours! happy day!

springy

i love having a ‘new’ home. a place to call ours. i have the best time decorating it, especially with the seasons and/or holidays. now, granted, we are still in the process of remodeling our house. with that said, our kitchen is oooold {not our counters or appliances but pretty much everything else}. as you probably have seen in previous pictures, we have wood paneling on our walls. yes, you read that right. frickin’ wood paneling. i can’t wait until we hit up this room and update it.

anyhoo, decorating our place is fun but sometimes difficult, because the aesthetics of certain rooms negate what i am trying to do. so, i try my best to incorporate my likes onto my dislikes. for example, i love the fireplace that we have but i totally dislike the mantle. to me, i can put something super nice and pretty up on the mantle but all i see is that fugly mantle! i hope y’all get what i am saying!

well, i fancied up our home with some spring/easter fun decor. i love spring…the segue into summer! i always start with our chalkboard. i love drawing something fun and festive onto it, whether it’s a pretty picture or saying. that always sets the tone for the decor!

via tandeminlove.com

[i love chalkboard writing…ever since i was kid]

i am obsessed with these paper flower garlands from target. obsessed. they are so pretty and delicate. i fell in love as soon as i laid my eyes on them while shopping a few weeks back. i love decorating our front bay window with every holiday that comes around or i like to put something seasonal in there to jazz it up. i thought these garlands were going to be perfect up on our window and they are…natch.

[ok, last one…so purrrty!]

i then pulled out some ‘old’ decor i had from our basement. when hc and i moved into this house {almost} last year, i had purchased some easter decor that had gone on sale at some stores {after season} and then packed it away for next year! well, next year is now here and i pulled out the decor i had collected. i was excited to see all the goodies i had picked out last year come to life in our house, finally!

i love spring and i love that it feels light and springy in our house with our festive touches. now, we just need the weather to catch up and mother nature needs to stop with all that snow! well, it might be cold outside but it’s warm and fun inside our abode!

happy spring!

deck the halls!

we finally and slowly decorated our home. annndd, it’s still not done. well, let me explain. since we are in a new home {and first christmas here!}, there’s so much more space and so much more we can do! so, the old decorations we had at our place in chicago totally suffice, but we want to do so much more {in time my dear, in time…what’s that proverbial phrase? patience is a virtue. hmph}.

we did our usual routine, we whipped out the decor, turned on the christmas tunes, and drank some wine! well, this time around {with us having olive} it was quite the slow process. there was a lot of holding her. stopping. there was a lot of giggle time. stopping. there was a lot of her crying because she either wanted to touch the ornaments or just be in our arms. stopping. wow…decorating took a l o n g time. it actually became a part deux!

well we did it! we finally got our decorations up. it is still a work in progress, i am still adding little things here and there as i assess how ‘festive’ our home is. i definitely don’t like getting too crazy {haha…some might argue} with the decor but i know that there isn’t enough oomph yet in our house for it to scream holiday!  slowly but surely, it will all come together…

in the meantime, enjoy the pics and captions! some things have already changed since i took these photos, but naturally that will be for next year’s holiday post! 😉

october delights

to celebrate autumn and halloween, i started to dress our abode with some festive fall decor. it took a few weeks to collect everything, especially since we have a new house and all the decor had to be bought {next year will be easy peasy!}.

i hung our pretty crate and barrel wreath on our door…always a warm greeting! this one is from a few years ago but there is a similar one here. we purchased a few pumpkins to put by our door too. another festive welcome to any of our house guests!

via tandeminlove.com

[a view from outside…i wish i could capture a better pic! i just love the way the windowsill looks!]

i purchased a bunch of pumpkins from pottery barn kids…i just love, love that store! they had the cutest, most fun halloween stuff this year! my favorite purchases were the white star pumpkins, i love the way it looks! especially when i light a candle inside of it. it gives it an eery, spooky glow. the black cat and the orange pumpkin are actually treat containers but i thought it looked best as scary additions in my window display. i’m glad i bought the pbk decor early because all these items are sold out now!

via tandeminlove.com

i debated on placing burlap autumn leaves underneath the pumpkins but decided to go with a burlap runner. it was a more even, flat foundation than the burlap leaves on a wire {it was too bumpy for the pumpkins to lay flat}, plus it looked better.

i bought the regular looking pumpkins from hobby lobby. the burlap runner, the corn husks, and the colored leaves are from hobby lobby as well. oh, that store is wonderful…i can find so many wonderful things there. the fall leaves were the perfect, final touch to the window display.

via tandeminlove.com

[i was experimenting with different burlap…leaves or runner? the runner won]

of course, we hung the bright lab lights up! i love these lights. they were the final, final perfect touch to the halloween decor!

throughout the house, i added a few festive touches. like these pumpkin candles from bath and body works. the smell is so yummy. pumpkin, pecans, and spice, so nice!

i purchased these white pumpkins from hobby lobby. i love the look of these pumpkins. very ethereal and cool.

well, that’s it. that is all i have for this decorating moment. i had a great time scheming up ideas on how, what, and where to decorate in our home. it was so much fun putting everything together! i’m really enjoying our festive home right now and i hope you enjoyed it too!

we love holidays and festive fun stuff! i hope your home is full of fun, spooky, cozy decor and warmth. happy halloween!

bright lab lights

i’m currently obsessed with these bright lab lights. i was on pinterest one evening {it can be so evil, right?!} and saw a pin of these fun, festive, pretty lights. boom. i had to have them! what were these pretty things? how can i get them? immediately i connected onto their website, bright lab and pure delight consumed me!

you can buy their preselected string of lights or you can create your own! hello, of course i am going to create my own. duh! my mind raced with ideas. hmmm, halloween was coming up but before you know it, christmas would be here too! so, i created both!

it’s pretty awesome. you can choose a string of 24 bulb lights or 48 bulb lights. you then choose the colors of the yarn balls you want. it was fun to play around with the options. you could choose colors in succession {ombre anyone?}, or mix up a bunch of colors with no rhyme or reason.

i chose, for the halloween lights, to do three shades of orange and three shades of grey {no, not fifty}. when i received the lights, they were perfecto! the color combination look ah-mazing when they were lit. i am super happy with the selection, the product, and the quality.

they are super soft in color when lit and the yarn balls are fun, whimsical, and delicate. lending to a cool, party atmosphere {because at our house, it’s nothin’ but a parteeee!}.

i’m loving the halloween set and i can’t wait until i can get the christmas ones up. bright lab lights are my new favorite thing. what a nifty idea!

happy festive decorating to all!

decorating

oy…the joys and whoas of decorating a new home!

it’s tough. we are working on the living room right now. we need to buy a new rug and curtains for it. ugh. i am overwhelmed with the options…so many choices and i need to make a decision soon! we need curtains asap! there is nothing on our window right now and we need to have the privacy and i want to have the room aesthetically pleasing.

we keep debating back and forth on patterns and colors for our curtains. it’s such a big expense and i can’t make up my mind!

here are some ideas for the curtains:

via tandeminlove.com

this swatch is from regal drapes. i love the cross pattern and colors. i am torn though, i’m not sure what color i really want the drapes to be! i want color but i’m wavering on committing to one!

via tandeminlove.com

this one is from the shade store. as you can see…i am leaning towards yellow. i do love the yellow and gray, i think it will be a nice accent color and give the room a nice pop of brightness.

via tandeminlove.com

i like this iron gate style from drape style. i’d maybe do this in a dark grey but i think i am leaning towards color. ugh. i dunnoooooo! honestly, everything i peek at looks really nice, i wish i could get several options and just change them out when i feel like it! yeaaaaahhhh, right.

via tandeminlove.com

the iron gate looks very nice, i think the print will impactful in the space and neutral enough to play around with when it comes to any accents.

via tandeminlove.com

hc and i really like this print above. it’s from an etsy seller, she offers quite a range of fabrics and color.

as for rugs, i played around with idea of doing something bright. i am now leaning towards something more graphic and bold. a nice statement rug that can flex with any of the color and accent changes in the room.

here are some ideas around rugs:

via tandeminlove.com

i love this rug from ikea. i like the bright colors. the only issue i have with this is that is doesn’t come in a larger size. the size it is will do but we really want a larger rug to fit better into the size of the room.

via tandeminlove.com

i love this rug from rugs direct. i like how bold it is but still neutral where we can change our room colors around it. i like the graphic design and the bold neutral colors that still make a statement. the only thing that makes me nervous is that it is a cream color! i must be crazy to want a cream colored rug with kids!!

i wish i had everything available so i could play around and then truly make a decision {wouldn’t that be great?!}! the whole decorating thing is fun…it’s our house and we get to make it as beautiful, lovely, comfy, and cool as we please! i love it.

well, once we finalize everything, i’ll let y’all know what decor we decided on! we will still have a lot to do with the room but getting the main pieces implemented is our main focus! ooohhhh, I can’t wait to share!

xoxo

olive’s room

we finally put the final touches on miss olive’s room! oooohhhhhh yay!

her room is perfect. i love everything about it. it’s light, whimsical, and fun. all things a baby’s room should be!

if you have been following my blog, you might have seen this post and this post from the past about olive’s room {also, we have already completed grace’s room in the new house here}. it explains the compilation of her room, when we were living in chicago, and olive’s nursery was as big as a closet {that was quite a challenge but we made it work!}! now she has a lot of space and we absolutely love spending our time in there.

if you click on the links above, you will see where most of the decor comes from.

olive’s room was inspired by the land of nod, blog sites, pinterest, my love for anything whimsy, soft colors, modern and clean lines. i was the anti-theme soon to be momma. i did not want anything ‘themed’. it’s so not my style. no monkeys, no winnie the pooh, no caterpillars, no nothing. a lot of people asked me what my theme was going to be for the baby’s room and i would say nothing {which was true…i mean, what was i suppose to say? it’s going to be the coolest, chicest, baby’s room ever done?? okaaayyyy, i did say that a few times :)} and i would get a blank stare in return {gasp! no theme?!}. i would say something like, “it’s going to be a cool room but no theme” but peeps still didn’t understand.

anyhoo, when we were decorating olive’s room in the city, we knew it wasn’t going to be permanent. we knew that we were going to be in a house soon {at the time, how soon? we weren’t sure}, so we didn’t want to go all out in her room {i still had a few tricks up my sleeve with the decor}.

so, once we bought our house, olive’s room was number one priority! i couldn’t wait to finish it. hc worked very hard on it and worked hard on getting it done. since we had so much more room, we purchased a few more pieces of furniture to complete her nursery.

via tandeminlove.com

[olive’s room pre-makeover]

olive’s room was painted this awful blue color and had lots of nails and holes in the walls. like i’ve said before, the whole house is trimmed in this oakey wood color. every door, every window is in this blah color {just not our style}. hc patched up everything, repainted, and replaced all the wood base boards. he fixed up the closet {new shelf, bar, and paint}, he replaced the closet doors, replaced the knobs with an antique rubbed bronze color, and cleaned and redid the window and window frame. that set it up for a clean slate and ready to decorate!

olive’s old room in the city had just a small window. so we only had one silk panel and it was perfect. when we moved into the new house, we needed to buy another panel. it was actually hard to track down! nevertheless, we purchased another matching panel…phew! we also had to put money into altering it! the panels were too long and we purchased the shortest length they had. oh my. it cost almost as much as one panel to do the alterations…holy cow!

originally, we only had one little sloane leaning bookcase. basically, that was all we could fit {actually the bookcase barely fit!}! once we put the bookcase into the new room, we knew we needed another one. now it’s perfectly balanced and we have more storage space for olive’s toys.

via tandeminlove.com

i love how her dresser drawer turned out. hc replaced and painted the drawer fronts and i purchased the prettiest pink glass knobs from anthro to personalize and perfect her dresser. it’s perfect for the changer {we draped a waterproof sheet saver over her changer to catch any accidents!} and her diaper caddy, from land of nod, is the perfect size. it houses all her essentials: lots of huggies diapers, butt paste, mustela body lotion, gold bond powder, babyganics sunscreen, and organic apricot oil {for cradle cap}.

via tandeminlove.com

i love pottery barn kids for their cute personalized pieces. her olive hamper is perfectly sized. it houses all her dirty garments and looks super cute while doing so!

we love the ceramic giraffe but we knew it wouldn’t be so safe once she started crawling. with great surprise, she doesn’t touch it! she might pet it but that is about it! amazing. she really has no interest in it…so far 😉

we love her little cloud shelves. such a perfect fit in her room and perfectly placed above her changing table. she can’t reach it and it houses all her cute, fun books and toys. don’t you love the ‘olive you’ print?? it was a gift from olivia and aaron. so cute.

well, that is olive’s room! we hope you enjoyed it as much as we enjoy living in it! we are so happy with the updates and how her room was transformed. thank you so much to hc for working so hard on it and together we have made it a cozy, cute, cuddly little room for the babes. it’s now full of fuzzy toys, comfy blankies, and filled with love.

xoxo

bebe’s room

oh baby!

we started on the baby’s room awhile ago and i am finally sharing!  of course, it’s not done yet but it definitely has it’s roots placed for a cute little girl’s abode!  thanks to hubby charming for doing almost all the work.  as usual, i have the vision and he has the muscle and tools.  we are loving it so far, it’s a small but mighty room!

via tandeminlove.com

[getting the crib together in august]

the room was cleared out by early august {again, thanks to hc!!!!} and we had a clean slate to start with!  yay!  we purchased the crib from ikea {first things first…the babes needs a sleeping area asap!} and hubby charming went to work immediately to put it together!  hc did a lot of research on cribs…a crib is a crib is a crib, is what we learned.  anything sold in the u.s. is deemed safe by the federal government.  it all comes down to aesthetics!  you can pay $100 or $2,000 but it will all be safe for the bebe.  it’s just not the best idea to use a really old hand me down or any crib that’s old.  safety regulations change every few years and you want to make sure your stuff is up to date!

via tandeminlove.com

[putting the finishing touches on the dresser]

we bought a grey dresser.  there was  a lot of debating, should we do all white?  will buying a grey dresser not go well with other grey decor we registered for?  well, we did it.  but we were inspired by other dressers we saw {actually it was hc’s idea with my liking!}.  we decided to go with white dresser drawers to tie into the white decor.  so hc bought wood, cut out matching dresser drawers, stained them white, and voila!  i absolutely loved the results!  we then went to anthropologie and purchased pink bubble glass knobs to complete the look!

via tandeminlove.comthe kiki doll and fluffy bunny!  and yes…I KNOW, THERE WILL BE NO TOYS, BLANKETS, OR FLUFFY THINGS in the crib once the bebe is here!!!!

via tandeminlove.com

we purchased ombre curtains from target {loooooveeeeee target!} and used two panels as the backdrop to the dresser.  i love how it looks!  it totally adds a pop of color for the room.  we debated using these really cool decals or painting but what swayed us to not do it was the possibility of it being temporary.  we might not be at our place for long, so why do all that work or spend the money if it wasn’t going to be more of a permanent situation??  so, i love how it ended up looking!

via tandeminlove.com

i absolutely love the color combo.  it’s mainly grey/white with a sprinkling of light pink, coral, and gold!  so fun!  chevron rug from pbk…thank you lariss {muwah, you’re the best}!

we still have a few more things coming {i know!  i know you are thinking, “how can we fit anything else into this teeny, tiny room?!”.  well, just a wee bit more and i swear and we will be done!”}.  overall the room is dunzo!  how exciting!  we started with just the core pieces {we needed to get that done months ago for peace of mind} and slowly progressed the decorating process {the second priority!} to get the aesthetics down pat.

i want to say thank you, thank you, thank you for all the wonderful gifts from our friends and family!!!!  the ones given in person and the ones so kindly sent in the mail {let me tell you, i loved getting all the lovely packages in the mail!  who doesn’t?!}.  this room wouldn’t be so cute without all of your thoughtful, generous, and heartfelt gifts!!!  we feel so grateful for the gifts you have given us…blankets, toys, books, room decor, bedding, clothes, necessities, and all items in-between for baby heintz!

baby heintz is the most grateful one of all…she’s going to be so excited to see, use, and snuggle with all the gifts & love around her!

xoxo
