trick or treat ’18!

halloween 2018

halloween always brings back vivid memories for me. i remember my halloweens so distinctly; like the years where it was freezing cold, which halloweens were so warm you didn’t need a coat, houses that gave out the big candy bars and what costumes i wore. i loved the spooky shows, cartoons, and sitcoms that would create story lines around halloween. it was all so wonderfully, hauntingly good.

halloween has always been a faaaaaaavorite holiday of mine. i thoroughly enjoy the lighthearted goodness of it…not so much the scary, creepy, gory part of it but the spooky, fun, childish, change of season piece of it. the changing of the leaves, the chill in the air, and the tradition of trick or treating excites me!

ellie napped during the afternoon and i was hoping to get over to my dad’s house by 3pm but that did not happen! hc came home early and we fiiiiinally headed over to my parent’s house by 4:30 pm…so late! the temp was amazing…it was near 60 degrees and that’s like summer in october! i am sure we missed a bunch of trick or treaters going over so late but chest la vie. we waited for my sister, thuy, to come by and once she arrived, we snapped pics and went on our merry way with the girls to have some fun trick or treating.

i walked along with the gang for a bit and decided to return to help my dad out. one, i looooooooove to hand out candy but two, i wanted to make sure i did that part because my dad’s knees are the best and i didn’t want him to walk up and down the stairs to answer the door.

once hc and the gang returned, we poured over their treats and turned on the telly to watch some fun halloween cartoons! we answered the door a few more times and then the trick or treaters tapered off and then we gather together for dinner.

oh, we had so much fun! at the girls loved knocking on all the doors. little elle belle tried sooooo hard to keep up with her big sis. it was so heartwarming to watch them hit up each house in their own unique way. olive running ahead and ellie trying to catch up to olive. oh how i love them!

i’ll declare this halloween a complete success!

school costume parade prek5

i love cute little things like a costume parade at school! it’s just wayyyyy too adorable to watch! these young school days have my heart, i love how sweet and innocent it is. i look forward to moments like this!

hc and i split our duties. hc dropped ellie off at my parent’s house {plus, he was going to take off to work after the parade} while i took olive to school to get her ready for her parade! i also hauled her class treats in the biggest bag ever and i couldn’t wait to give them to the teacher to pass out to the students. i was so excited…maybe just as or more excited than olive! hahaha!

once we arrived at school, i fixed her up, attached her wings, gave her a hug and ran outside to where everyone was gathering for the parade. i adjusted my camera settings and waited for hc to join me. the parade started on time and i couldn’t wait to get olive’s attention. as i waved to her and yelled her name, she gave me a happy, shy look. she usually does that in situations like this. it’s so hard to read her reaction!

the kids circled around the park outside and then grouped together for class pictures. it was so fun to see all the kids costumes. i must admit, the polar express conductor was a fav! the little boy was so cute with his mustache, so flippin’ cute!

after the parade, hc left for work and i went home to grab ellie belle and couldn’t wait to come back to school to pick up olive and hear about her halloween fun filled day at school!

class room treats

firsts are always special to me, so my girl’s milestones make me happy and i love documenting it.

halloween treats have always been a personal favorite of mine. ever since i was a kid, i loved putting treat bags together. i can’t explain it but i know that it’s sooooo fun for me! i love gathering cute little toys and candy to create a bag that is unique and fun for the kiddos.

of course, we were at target and that dollar section will get ya! i grabbed a bunch of items and continued throughout the store to grab additional things {outside of what i needed, natch}. when we arrived home and gathered the items we purchased for the treat bags, i realized i had far too many items but alas, i wasn’t going to run back to target to return dollar items! so be it, my treat bags were a bit overzealous and i loved it!

olive is on this hello kitty kick {thanks mcdonald’s!} and loves to wear anything hello kitty. she opted for this fabulous outfit {that you will see below} to create her goodie bags. you go girl!

she actually assembled all her classmate’s bags by herself and i was so proud! i did the lettering and the sealing but everything else was all her! i was so excited that she was excited to put together each bag. as she did, she kept saying, “my friend will like the orange glow stick” or “she will love chips!” it was so cute that she was thinking about her different classmates as she assembled each bag!

we had a blast putting everything together and i hope all the kids loved what was inside as much as i did!

first day of school

i truly had intent to post this well over a week ago but liiiiiiiiife. we were so busy leading up to our trip {i could name the 100 millions things we had to do and had going on but i’ll spare you} and i even brought my computer, with intent – again, to finish this post and publish while i was on vacation but that didn’t happen either {i’m a weirdo when it comes to unsecured wifi streams and won’t log into anything, so therefor, i didn’t log into my web account to finish this post! i should have known…}.

anyhoo, long intro to olive’s very short first day of school. i executed all the necessary preparations. i had pre-picked out her outfit, packed her backpack with the required essentials, filled out all her forms needed, and gathered all her school supplies the night before, amongst other things! olive was very excited for her first day of class this year! she loves going to school, she loves meeting new friends, and she loves to learn.

we got ready and we were all extra early. hc took ellie over to my parent’s house and no one was up and ready to go there! whaaaaaaa? we wanted to get to school early because one: the parking lot gets sooooo full and two: it’s her first day! we didn’t want to rush around and wanted it to be more relaxing and fun. my dad finally came out and hc ran out of the house like flash to come back and pick us up! we screeched the wheels on our way to school, of course the parking lot was fullllllll, and we were late – running our way into the building! ugh! what a start!

to top it off, i couldn’t remember what the classroom number was!! so there we were, walking back and forth, trying to figure it out. i ran upstairs to the office and they told me which room number it was and we slowly snuck into the room! we got called out and the teacher told me to come sit up front with the other parents, with olive and i obliged.

after the introductions and details of the how their day would look, the kids were given the green light to explore and of course, olive beelined for the doll house and barbies! after some time of playing, we circled back together for some final details and then everyone was dismissed!

we then took olive out to breakfast to celebrate her first official day of class. it’s the little things like this, that make me happy and i hope it makes olive happy too! i love making certain occasions and moments in life special. i really hope that actions like this will positively resonates with olive.

it was a great start to the school year and a wonderful start to our morning! we loved having hc there to make events like these whole. although, i had a #momfail moment later on in the day when i completely forgot to take them to their gymnastics class! heyyyy, you win some, you lose some. hahahaha!!

new bed frame

it’s almost time for ellie to transition into a ‘big’ girl bed…we are hemming and hawing over when it’s the right time. for olive, we had no choice with ellie on her way but honestly, it was the perfect time for her. it really was. she was absolutely ready at 2.5 years old! now ellie has 4 more months until she hits that mark but i have a feeling it will be another couple months after that for her.

we were so excited to receive this amazing, new bed from delta children. it’s their lindsey model and it’s absolutely perfect, aesthetically, for our current decor. we weren’t sure which girl’s room we were going to put it in. like i said previously, ellie wasn’t ready…so, we felt it would be perfect in olive’s room. plus, she was adamant that we put it in her room! she saw the new bed frame being delivered and asked us if it was her new bed.

only on one condition…coming from hc. to be transparent, olive has been sleeping in our bed for over a year. yes. i said it. over a year. i really loved it. i did. previously, i have always thought…noooooo, no kids in the bed! absolutely not. nope. not gonna happen. and then it did. one night olive asked to sleep in our bed. ok…then the next night, then the next night, then…one year later and i loved every minute of it. i stared at her. i hugged her. i loved waking up next to her. it was so blissful to me. i missed sharing a bed with hc but i was a bit obsessed with olive being right next to me. but i knew it needed to end at some point. i just didn’t know when…every time we asked olive to sleep in her bedroom, she firmly said no. until the new bed frame arrived…

so, hc assembled it and voilá! a pretty bed frame that transformed olive’s room into a ‘princess’ room. her choice of word. we really love it! it looks perfect in her room, it’s well made, and olive is ecstatic over her new sleeping arrangement! we kept her old sheets and decor…i am too obsessed with her pillows to replace them, but the height and design of the frame gives her room a fun refresh!

the night her new bed was set up in her room, she was so excited to sleep in it. hc and i weren’t sure if it was really going to happen and then it did. to be honest, i cried. i did. that night, i read her a bedtime story and cried. i was super sad, like really sad. i felt like we were breaking up and i was being abandoned. i was sad to not see her sweet face first thing in the morning and get the hugs and good mornings and snuggles. it hit me hard that she is growing up and this was just another milestone that was harder on mama than on her.

anyhoo, i am super happy to have my lovely hubby right next to me. don’t get me wrong…that’s exactly how it should be but that little journey that i had next to olive every morning, i wouldn’t trade that for anything. i am so happy we were able to have that sweet moment in our lives, even if it was short {but long according to hc} lived time.

another pool day

pool time has become our summer day staple. i am so happy we joined a neighborhood pool. it’s the greatest solve for too hot summer days!

on this day, i got the girls ready, not as early as i was hoping for because we love to sleep in! we had a very, very late and slow morning. these summer nights and mornings have been so late, late, late! late nights and very late mornings! i am definitely enjoying it though!

i rounded them up, my little sassy gals, and headed to the pool. not many folks hit up the kids pool so it’s nice and not crowded for us when we are there. it’s only when they have adult swim, do all the older kids come barreling into the pool. yikes!

when we first got there, ellie was in complete observe mode. it was hilarious to watch her. she just strutted around and stared at everyone through her pineapple shades. what a little diva! her chunky thighs and cheeks and the sunglasses that didn’t fit the nose bridge she doesn’t have, was so glorious to see. hahaha!

we decided to bring a bag of toys with us, this time, but that was a big mistake. each time adult swim happened, it resulted in a large group of kids raging into the baby pool, then quickly dissipating, but slowly, each time, the girl’s toys would disappear. so with each adult swim, by the time we left the pool, olive and ellie had two fishes left out of their whole spread of toys. olive lost her fishing net, her tinker bell doll, her nemo toys, and so forth. wah wahhhh.

after lunch and some more swimming, we headed back home. after giving the girls a bath, my sister called me and asked if olive could go to the pool with her cousins. oy vey. well of course! so i dressed her in another swim suit and out the door she went for another early evening of fun!

happy summer days!

swim class

we enrolled olive into swim class, again {she started over a month ago, in early june}. she took classes when she was two? i think she was two, maybe a little older than that but not by much. we, unfortunately, stopped after that. i highly recommend any parent to always continue with lessons once you start and start early. your kids will most likely be more confident, not so afraid of the water, and more advanced in their skills.

olive’s first lesson was tough. she was afraid, didn’t understand some of the trainer’s concepts, and was super timid with trying anything that caused water to touch her face. um, that’s a problem.

her coach was great, though. she was super patient, kind, and really supported olive in the way she needed it. i was happy with her style and happy to see olive attempt a few things she wasn’t feeling confident about.

we wanted ellie to try out swim lessons too but that was a complete debacle. she didn’t want to be in the water and clung to hc and cried. oh well, there’s always next year for this little girl! we all attended olive’s first lesson…ya know those firsts! it’s always special in our books! of course i watched from the sidelines while olive practiced and hc carried ellie around in the pool. after olive’s first lesson, we needed to head back to get after the plans we had for the day.

overall, it was a good first day of lessons. i am hoping that she gets her aha moment and progresses quickly! it’s so important to me that she becomes a strong swimmer! for my sanity and for her safety! so, here’s to a good run for the rest of the summer!

house on the rock

since our plans to go up to a friend’s lake house fell through, hc suggested we go to a place he’s been to before called house on the rock. i was like, the what on the rock? well, it’s a really weird house built on a rock. plain and simple. i thought, ok…let’s do it! why not. he had time off and we might as well travel somewhere, not too far away, and have some fun!

i packed up everything but the kitchen sink…even though it was a one night get away, we still hauled a lot of stuff. hc packed up the cooler with drinks and goodies and we were ready to hit the road. it was going to be a 3.5 hour drive. not too shabby…a totally doable ride with two little ones!

we had fun driving towards our destination, although trying to find a decent place to eat was almost impossible. we did not want the typical fast food stops and we didn’t want to go to a seedy joint with slot machines. ugh. mile after mile, we had nothing. then we started to get hangry. snacks weren’t cutting it and i didn’t want to fill up on junk {well, i eat junk every day, so i don’t know what i am talking about} but anyhoo, i finally mapped out a place called baumgartner cheese store and tavern. hells yes! we were in wisconsin and you always have to hit up something cheesy {no pun intended}.

this place was perrrrrrfect. it was quaint, cute, and everyone was so dang friendly. our server, kyle, was the nicest kid everrrrrr. the kids had a blast sitting by the window and we ate the most random, fulfilling things. it was kitschy and fit into the aesthetics of our road trip perfectly!

we ordered beer, chili dogs, popcorn, and our meals came with pickles and blocks of cheese. yasssssss. ellie made us crazy with her restlessness but we survived and had a really good time eating there! kind kyle even snapped a decent picture of us in front of the restaurant!

we hit the road again and made it to our destination within an hour and a half-ish. the area was green and pretty. we pulled up to our ‘resort’ {total joke} and checked in. we then drove a second to get to our side of the hotel and it was freakin’ desolate. apparently NO ONE visits the house on the rock on week nights and they definitely don’t stay overnight. hmmmmmmm.

their restaurant inside the hotel was closed and there was no one in sight. we decided to hit up the hotel pool and have some fun. olive had a blast, she loved that she could stand in the pool and ellie was terrified. after some time in the pool, we headed back to our room and this is when shit got real!!!!

as we were walking down the hallway, there was a man {not a boy}, a grown man sitting on the ground, looking at his phone. olive ran by him and i called her back, because she went too far past our room. she backtracked and stood, maybe five feet away from the man. he looked very annoyed, so he got up and scurried away. as he passed me, i was going to say hello, but his eyes were looking down at the ground and he seemed flustered. then he passed hc and he actually said hi to the man but the man didn’t even respond and scuffled past hc. okayyyyyyyy, odd.

honestly, it kind of freaked me out. i said to hc, “what happens he is a serial killer or someone crrraaaaaaazy?!!!!!” hc was a little disturbed by this man’s behavior too! well, that just gave me anxiety all night. we and this man seemed to be the ONLY guests at this hotel. i am not joking. the parking lot was empty. ohmergawd.

we all had fun back in our room and when it was time for bed, we put the girls in the adjoining room, far away from the door. hc and i decided to sleep on the bed in front of the door. holy crap, i was like dude, strange hallway man,…if you try something, i will stab you with my blush brush and beat you with my flip flop!!!! in the middle of the night, hc woke up to use the bathroom and it rustled me awake. ugh. i was filled with anxiety, so much so that i laid awake freaked out over the creepy dude in the hotel!!!

morning came and all was well but really, that guy freaked me out! we got ready and hit a breakfast place that looked yummy, and it was! after a decent meal, we drove over to the house on the rock. the entrance was soooo pretty, so green, lush, and filled with very large pots filled with pretty flowers!

we started our journey inside the house and finished in two hours?! we did kind of speed through all the rooms. i found the house {now, not to knock hc because he really does like this tourist attraction} to be so odd! it really creeped me out. there were clowns everywhere and doll after doll after doll after dolls. it smelled old and gave me a very strange vibe. the girls were frightened by some of the displays and disliked the very loud music some of the musical attractions played.

it was definitely a fun trip and worth a visit {it’s like american pickers on acid}. after touring the whole place, we jumped back into the car and headed back home {and hit horrible traffic!}. we finally arrived and it was sooooo good to be home sweet home. our favorite place to be!

lazy pool day

we love our lazy pool days! although the weather hasn’t been on our side the last week or so. any day i had available to go to the pool, it rained or it was too cold. what?! such a bummer!

so, we finally had a beautiful day and off we went! we got ready in the morning, sprayed on copious amounts of sunblock, and packed up our things! the pool was full but not crowded. we headed to our favorite kiddie pool {the one and only!} and the girls got right in. there were a few kids in the pool and olive was scouting out some new friends. once it hit noon, a huge group of women in this area, with their kiddos, all left to have lunch. the kiddie pool pretty much cleared out and olive was so bummed. my girls and maybe one other kid was in the pool and olive wanted to go home. whaaaaa?

she seemed a bit sad all the kids left but i couldn’t seem to convince her that it was only temporary and that they were all coming back after they ate. well, she wasn’t buying it and i was indifferent, so we gathered our belongings and left. as we drove away, hc drove right by us!! oh em gee! first, what was he doing home? and second, we had to convince olive to go back.

it didn’t take much for us to say to her to change her mind, and ta da – we headed back to the pool with hc! yayyyyyyy! we chilled {with tasty libations hc concocted} and olive met another friend and was having the best time! ellie just moseyed around in the pool, doing her own thing.

we then walked over to the food area and ordered lunch. then the funniest thing happened. while ellie was sitting next to me, enjoying her food, she proceeded to pee the biggest puddle on the bench. whatever…they clean it anyways, she was soaked from the water, and we were at the pool! i was dying. ellie stopped eating, looked down at the puddle, and then continued to finish her food. hahahaha!

the rest of our pool time and afternoon was so relaxing and splendid! it was such a wonderful surprise to see hc and have him spend the rest of the day with us. it was the best kind of lazy pool day!

gymnastics

we signed olive up for gymnastics. a long overdue activity but nevertheless, we finally did it!

we all went to the facility to get olive signed up. as we were heading out the door, i told olive what we were doing. she didn’t seem thrilled. when we arrived, she still didn’t seem enthusiastic. once we walked inside and started chatting with the lady behind the desk, olive walked around, a bit, to explore.

after a minute or so, she walked over to me, beaming, grinning from ear to ear. i then asked her, “are you excited?” and she then shook her head up and down. she was so excited! she was loving what she saw and loved watching all the kids practice down below!

on her first day, she couldn’t wait to get started. i took her downstairs to wait and she was totally eyeing all the other girls down there! oh so funny! she made a comment on how they didn’t have their shoes on…i said, “that’s fine. we’ll take your shoes off in a bit”, then from the corner of my eye i noticed, as we were sitting on the bench, that she was slowly pulling her shoes off with her toes. i started laughing. i told her it was fine and that she could take her shoes off now.

she then started bouncing around and doing things i wasn’t sure what it was. kind of showing off to the other girls, like – look at me! i know how to do gymnastic type of stuff. *eye roll*. {please watch the video down below}

her first day was a success! she absolutely looks forward to it every week! we also signed ellie up for a mom and tot class! yay for me? hahaha!

i’m so excited to get both girls in gymnastics! what activities do your babes love? i’m always open to suggestions and seeing what my girls might love!
