at first, i wasn’t sure what i was going to do with ellie’s room. like i have said when i was decorating olive’s room, i am not a super pink kind of gal. well, yes. i love pink but just because they are girls doesn’t mean everything has to be pink. aaaaaand i am not a fan of characters. nope. no winnie, no mickey, no monkeys, na da. the only character items i allow around here are her pj’s and toys that are given to her.
anyhoo, back to ellie’s room. i love neutral colors. olive’s room is white, grey, with pops of gold and coral. ellie’s room ended up being black and white with pops of light green and light pink. at first i was going to go with light pink and green but change it to the accent color. i looooooove how it turned out! i love that her room is mainly black and white and everything else, all the decor, just fell into place.
i really enjoyed pulling everything together and finding all the cute items for her room. i shopped big retailers and shopped small as well. i tried my best to shop small for a lot of the items but ended up having a good mix. decorating is so much fun but yet so time consuming and it’s so hard to figure out if an item will go with the room, the whole look, or not.
i love her room so much! i special thank you to dick and jane for the beautiful rug…a baby shower gift for ellie and a big thank you to jane who hemmed the black out curtains for the room! they turned out perfect! i am so happy how the room turned out and can’t wait to enjoy it with our baby ellie!
[love her starry wall, executed by hc]
[fun bright pillows to liven up the room]
[cat hamper]
[how amazing is this wood name sign and felt flower garland?!!]
[custom made crib sheet]
[a lot of flower crowns]
[custom made changing pad cover]
[we changed out the drawers knobs to coordinate with her room]
with the new babes coming here soon {i can’t believe it!}, there are a few things i really have my eye on! some decor, some lifestyle, and some necessities! we are decorating her room in monochrome colors with pops of light whimsical tones and i am super excited to get started! hc is prepping her room right now and by next week, i will be able to get things together! my goal is to finalize olive’s room {with her big girl bed} and finish decorating the nursery, get her going home outfit together and then i should be set {or i like to think so…hahaha}.
i just ordered this lovely, whimsical bassinet mini banner for our babes {no, this is not her name!} for her first day in this world. we will use it for pics at the hospital and possibly her newborn pics a few days later! after that, i will hang it in her room!
i love these felt flower garlands! so fun and pretty! i want to get one to hang in her room to soften up the strong colors we will decorate her room in! i think it will be the perfect touch and add some prettiness!
i would have passed down sophie to our new babes if we didn’t lose it in the city! right at the tail end of when olive was starting to lose interest in sophie, we lost it while we were walking around in river north with a friend. such a bummer! olive really did love it and it was of great use; for her teething moments, it kept her entertained, and sophie was her bestie for many months! so, i hope to get another one for her baby sister!
hc is totally digging this stroller! it’s tooted as the world’s most compact, smallest stroller out there! i only know a few details about it but hc is most excited over this item! i know that it can fit into your backpack and, obviously, it’s a perfect item to travel with, plus it’s not too shabby looking!
i love these little stuffed animals from pottery barn kids! it’s a perfect decor item for the babe’s new room! i am not into a ton of stuffed animals but i love cute, whimsy items such as these that just add a bit of fun to her room and gives a bit of pizazz to the decor!
so, the new rage is this dock a tot. i have only heard amazing reviews about it. it’s convenient, it’s an all in one baby lounger, it’s a portable bassinet/crib, great for co-sleeping, and it’s super snuggly {100% breathable materials} for the new babes! i am really interested and hoping we can get this before the babes is here!
we finally put the final touches on miss olive’s room! oooohhhhhh yay!
her room is perfect. i love everything about it. it’s light, whimsical, and fun. all things a baby’s room should be!
if you have been following my blog, you might have seen this post and this post from the past about olive’s room {also, we have already completed grace’s room in the new house here}. it explains the compilation of her room, when we were living in chicago, and olive’s nursery was as big as a closet {that was quite a challenge but we made it work!}! now she has a lot of space and we absolutely love spending our time in there.
if you click on the links above, you will see where most of the decor comes from.
olive’s room was inspired by the land of nod, blog sites, pinterest, my love for anything whimsy, soft colors, modern and clean lines. i was the anti-theme soon to be momma. i did not want anything ‘themed’. it’s so not my style. no monkeys, no winnie the pooh, no caterpillars, no nothing. a lot of people asked me what my theme was going to be for the baby’s room and i would say nothing {which was true…i mean, what was i suppose to say? it’s going to be the coolest, chicest, baby’s room ever done?? okaaayyyy, i did say that a few times :)} and i would get a blank stare in return {gasp! no theme?!}. i would say something like, “it’s going to be a cool room but no theme” but peeps still didn’t understand.
anyhoo, when we were decorating olive’s room in the city, we knew it wasn’t going to be permanent. we knew that we were going to be in a house soon {at the time, how soon? we weren’t sure}, so we didn’t want to go all out in her room {i still had a few tricks up my sleeve with the decor}.
so, once we bought our house, olive’s room was number one priority! i couldn’t wait to finish it. hc worked very hard on it and worked hard on getting it done. since we had so much more room, we purchased a few more pieces of furniture to complete her nursery.
[olive’s room pre-makeover]
olive’s room was painted this awful blue color and had lots of nails and holes in the walls. like i’ve said before, the whole house is trimmed in this oakey wood color. every door, every window is in this blah color {just not our style}. hc patched up everything, repainted, and replaced all the wood base boards. he fixed up the closet {new shelf, bar, and paint}, he replaced the closet doors, replaced the knobs with an antique rubbed bronze color, and cleaned and redid the window and window frame. that set it up for a clean slate and ready to decorate!
olive’s old room in the city had just a small window. so we only had one silk panel and it was perfect. when we moved into the new house, we needed to buy another panel. it was actually hard to track down! nevertheless, we purchased another matching panel…phew! we also had to put money into altering it! the panels were too long and we purchased the shortest length they had. oh my. it cost almost as much as one panel to do the alterations…holy cow!
originally, we only had one little sloane leaning bookcase. basically, that was all we could fit {actually the bookcase barely fit!}! once we put the bookcase into the new room, we knew we needed another one. now it’s perfectly balanced and we have more storage space for olive’s toys.
i love how her dresser drawer turned out. hc replaced and painted the drawer fronts and i purchased the prettiest pink glass knobs from anthro to personalize and perfect her dresser. it’s perfect for the changer {we draped a waterproof sheet saver over her changer to catch any accidents!} and her diaper caddy, from land of nod, is the perfect size. it houses all her essentials: lots of huggies diapers, butt paste, mustela body lotion, gold bond powder, babyganics sunscreen, and organic apricot oil {for cradle cap}.
i love pottery barn kids for their cute personalized pieces. her olive hamper is perfectly sized. it houses all her dirty garments and looks super cute while doing so!
we love the ceramic giraffe but we knew it wouldn’t be so safe once she started crawling. with great surprise, she doesn’t touch it! she might pet it but that is about it! amazing. she really has no interest in it…so far 😉
we love her little cloud shelves. such a perfect fit in her room and perfectly placed above her changing table. she can’t reach it and it houses all her cute, fun books and toys. don’t you love the ‘olive you’ print?? it was a gift from olivia and aaron. so cute.
well, that is olive’s room! we hope you enjoyed it as much as we enjoy living in it! we are so happy with the updates and how her room was transformed. thank you so much to hc for working so hard on it and together we have made it a cozy, cute, cuddly little room for the babes. it’s now full of fuzzy toys, comfy blankies, and filled with love.
there have been some final touches to the bebe’s room! you can see the room coming together here. also, some very sweet friends have sent the cutest packages to us! so kind!
baby h is so spoiled already!
a little bundle! such a cute package sent to us from b! thank you so much, it contained so many fun items…i love how the contents are for mommy and baby! high quality, hand crafted, functional, organic pieces! so stinkin’ adorbs!
we are so excited for our bookcase! it’s the perfect addition to the room. it houses all the random stuff perfectly…it helps organize some of the chaos!
unwrapping a cute door delivery from o! thank you so much for the personalized print, so cute and perfect for her room. we love it…such a sweet gift.
what an awesome gift from olivia! how great does that look?!
jonathan adler lion night light from johann and matt. we absolutely love it…i know i keep saying this but it’s so perfect for the room! thank you so much guys!
we love the sequin pillow from kar and kt…and i love the ruffled crib skirt! perfect final touches to the nursery.
i love the changing table and the rattan diaper/essential holder, from tracy! we have the wipes, diapers, butt paste, and all the other necessities for keeping her bum clean!
we also have the white rattan hamper {for all those dirty clothes, sheets, and changing mats that she will spit on, pee on, and poop on…oh, baby!} and the storage box from pbk. embroidered personally for miss olive with grey floss and trimmings!
the bebe’s room is ready to go! it’s a small but mighty room. so many cute, adorable, and fun decor…all suited for this little lady’s style {or perhaps, more so her momma’s style!}.
thanks so much to everyone for contributing to little olive’s abode!
we started on the baby’s room awhile ago and i am finally sharing! of course, it’s not done yet but it definitely has it’s roots placed for a cute little girl’s abode! thanks to hubby charming for doing almost all the work. as usual, i have the vision and he has the muscle and tools. we are loving it so far, it’s a small but mighty room!
[getting the crib together in august]
the room was cleared out by early august {again, thanks to hc!!!!} and we had a clean slate to start with! yay! we purchased the crib from ikea {first things first…the babes needs a sleeping area asap!} and hubby charming went to work immediately to put it together! hc did a lot of research on cribs…a crib is a crib is a crib, is what we learned. anything sold in the u.s. is deemed safe by the federal government. it all comes down to aesthetics! you can pay $100 or $2,000 but it will all be safe for the bebe. it’s just not the best idea to use a really old hand me down or any crib that’s old. safety regulations change every few years and you want to make sure your stuff is up to date!
[putting the finishing touches on the dresser]
we bought a grey dresser. there was a lot of debating, should we do all white? will buying a grey dresser not go well with other grey decor we registered for? well, we did it. but we were inspired by other dressers we saw {actually it was hc’s idea with my liking!}. we decided to go with white dresser drawers to tie into the white decor. so hc bought wood, cut out matching dresser drawers, stained them white, and voila! i absolutely loved the results! we then went to anthropologie and purchased pink bubble glass knobs to complete the look!
installing the shelves!
how cute! we purchased two of these from etsy. they were perfect!
the kiki doll and fluffy bunny! and yes…I KNOW, THERE WILL BE NO TOYS, BLANKETS, OR FLUFFY THINGS in the crib once the bebe is here!!!!
we purchased ombre curtains from target {loooooveeeeee target!} and used two panels as the backdrop to the dresser. i love how it looks! it totally adds a pop of color for the room. we debated using these really cool decals or painting but what swayed us to not do it was the possibility of it being temporary. we might not be at our place for long, so why do all that work or spend the money if it wasn’t going to be more of a permanent situation?? so, i love how it ended up looking!
i absolutely love the color combo. it’s mainly grey/white with a sprinkling of light pink, coral, and gold! so fun! chevron rug from pbk…thank you lariss {muwah, you’re the best}!
the paper tassel garland! it really ties in all the colors within the room. love! decorative letters {a gift from my brother, dan} from rifle paper company. blankets from lori {love you!} and my sisters {muwah!}, from the land of nod. the gold polka dot bedding and changing covers are also from the land of nod {thanks kt and kar…so sweet of you both!}
[i can’t wait to use the sleep sheep…thank you vs ladies!]
[from stella…her cute grey giraffe themed gift! so generous!]
[cloud pillow and ombre blanket from my sisters!]
it’s almost done! i’m debating on this cute, cute cloud mobile i saw online {hmmm, i just don’t want the room to be too fussy}, so we’ll seeeeee!
we LOVE our beautiful grey linen rocking chair, from PBK, {thank you dick and jane! such loving grandparents to baby heintz already!} it was delivered a few weeks ago!! such a critical piece for the baby’s room…i was told by many that having a rocker/glider is a must have! we are so grateful to dick and jane for this wonderful, generous gift!
[plush sheep // PBK – from em – le petit prince // anthropologie – from dana – olivia book // PBK– from dulce – and bookends // land of nod – from dawn! thank you ladies for your very thoughtful gifts!]
[shade from land of nod! thank you ladies at vicki’s!]
[this adorbs sheep rocker doesn’t fit…right now, but the latest and cutest addition to the bebe’s room! thank you tanya!!!]
we still have a few more things coming {i know! i know you are thinking, “how can we fit anything else into this teeny, tiny room?!”. well, just a wee bit more and i swear and we will be done!”}. overall the room is dunzo! how exciting! we started with just the core pieces {we needed to get that done months ago for peace of mind} and slowly progressed the decorating process {the second priority!} to get the aesthetics down pat.
i want to say thank you, thank you, thank you for all the wonderful gifts from our friends and family!!!! the ones given in person and the ones so kindly sent in the mail {let me tell you, i loved getting all the lovely packages in the mail! who doesn’t?!}. this room wouldn’t be so cute without all of your thoughtful, generous, and heartfelt gifts!!! we feel so grateful for the gifts you have given us…blankets, toys, books, room decor, bedding, clothes, necessities, and all items in-between for baby heintz!
baby heintz is the most grateful one of all…she’s going to be so excited to see, use, and snuggle with all the gifts & love around her!
