cubs family day

i was super excited to have experienced cubs family day at wrigley field! it’s for season ticket holders and aunt wendy so kindly invited us! it was a perfect day weather wise, sunny and in the mid-seventies.

of course, we got on the road late {i gotta get my coffee!}, it’s like olive knows we are on a time crunch and she always, always wants to be in my arms or cries for me. i am always the last one getting ready because i am catering to her needs and putting myself last in the get ready department!

anyhoozle, we arrived not too late and met up with aunt wendy, her friend kyle, and his girlfriend taylor at the cubbie bear. we walked on over and inside to wrigleyfied; the peeps at the field were doing introductions and letting us know about the timelines and what was available for us for their family day event.

our first thing on the agenda was the clubhouse. we had the chance to see where the players get ready and come out onto the field. it was great to see where they chill and pretty awesome to get a chance to sit in their dugout as well! of course, we snapped a bazillion pics. everyone had to get their fair share!

[in the dugout]

after we made our way throughout the clubhouse and dugout, i wanted to walk around the field and get some pics of the infamous ivy! also, along the entire back field wall, they had bouncy houses galore! it’s too bad olive is too little for them…there were so many big kids that she would have been trampled so many times. i had no idea how the bouncy thing worked so i placed olive inside the first one i saw. weeellllllll, it was actually the ‘finish’ line and these big boys were starting to come through! i screamed, “watch out, there’s a little girl!!!” but they didn’t hear me. poor olive fell over and started freaking out because she couldn’t get her balance to get back up. i jumped inside the bouncy and literally bounced everywhere trying to grab my child. it was hilarious! i rolled all over the place and my legs flung in the air as i desperately tried grabbing for olive to get her out! hahahahaha! i made it…my baby girl was out safe and sound.

we walked around the whole field and went though the visitor’s dugout and up and around to the jack daniel’s eating area. we grabbed our boxed lunches and sat up on the seats overlooking the field. we had the typical hot dog and chips meal, of course olive gravitated towards the chips and lemonade!

after we ate, we walked over to the media booths above the field where they broadcast the game and were the organist plays. we sat in the seats and chilled for a bit before we headed back downstairs to the souvenir shop.

it was a fast 2 1/2 hours! there was so much to do too! they had all the bouncy houses, tattoo artists, face painting, games, and so much more. we only did half the stuff they offered {hey, there is always next year!}.

we perused the souvenir shop as our last stop and after that we said our goodbyes. it was a great day spent together and we were so excited to have experienced cubs family day. it was definitely a day to remember.

flashback friday

i love this photo of us! can you believe it was olivia’s first cubs/baseball game?!

via tandeminlove.com

this was taken four years ago {almost exactly four years ago!}. unfortunately, it was quite a cold day for a game {bummer because it’s so much more fun when it’s warm!}.

albeit, we had a grand ol time! we drank beer, ate hot dogs, and cheered on the cubbies!!! annndddd, they did win! woo!

afterwards, we hit up the bars around wrigleyville {of course!}. we hung out for a bit, reveling in the all american acts of excessive indulgences and finally went on our merrily beer filled belly ways!

i chose this flashback because it was also olivia’a birthday yesterday! happy beurffday o, love you lots! another year older, another year wiser, and cheers to many more years of friendship!

pre-passover seder

my dear friend dana and i planned a quick afternoon date.

she is hosting seder this year at her new home, so she’s been working hard and practicing her cooking skills for the upcoming dinner at her place. we felt very honored that dana had invited us to experience seder with her and her family. hc and i are super, super bummed because we can’t go. so sad! it happens to fall on a day that we have a zillion things planned and it cannot be cancelled. boo. we are very sad that we will be missing out this wonderful event. the food sounds delicious…brisket {slow cooked by dana’s dad!}, zeroah {lamb}, matzo, maror {horseradish}, karpas  {vegetable/celery/parsley}, eggs, red wine, & lots of desserts. her friends and family will all be there and we will miss out on this special religious occasion and all the wonderful food!

[olive cried every time dana tried to hold her!!!]

dana trekked on over to our place and toted her homemade matzo ball soup with her so we could taste test her creation. she warmed up the soup on the stove and served me a bowl. i was waiting in anticipation to try it! yum. it was delicious! it was flavorful and filling. the matzo was very dense and had soaked in the broth; with each bite, every mouthful of matzo was tasty and savory. i felt very special to be taste testing her handmade creation for a very important occasion in her life!

[the delicious matzo ball soup {huge matzo!} // so good]

after the matzo ball soup, we noshed on some cubbie donuts. yes, you read that right. cubbie donuts. dunkin donuts partnered with the cubs and created a donut to support their cubs charity! how awesome is that?! i love doughnuts. that was our sweet treat after lunch. they were so scrumptious. every bite was like heaven in my mouth.

[the cubbie donut…only sold in chicago-land dunkin’ donuts, for a limited time, to support the cubs charity!]

after eating, we just hung out and caught up on life’s latest happenings. dana had a jnf meeting to get to mid afternoon, so after hanging out for a bit, she had to go. so sad. olive and i were having a great time with her! well, we were so excited to have tried her matzo ball soup and hc was super excited to have a pot of soup waiting for him at home!

thanks dana darling for stopping by!

saturday afternoon

we had a lazy saturday afternoon with grace.

just the four of us.  we hit southport nail bar for some pedis for our tootsies.  as we were heading there, we saw that they were setting up a festival on southport!  after we got our nails done up, we cruised through the street.  it was the first ever taco fest in the area!  the boutiques down southport were having discount specials for their stores {yippee!}, there were food stands, and fun kiddie stuff to do.  grace wanted to ride the ponies and the camel.  um, we said you ride horses every week…no to the ponies but yes to the camel!

we got grace to take a picture with her dad in front of her favorite team {we wish!  she is a stinky loving whitey sox fan…boo!}.  after enjoying a beautiful afternoon, we headed home to do some more relaxing.  yes, it was a great, calming day for us.

gender reveal party

what an amazing day!

we had our gender reveal party on sunday, and it was such a fun time!  behold, there will be a lot of pictures!  i had such fun concocting all the details {thanks kim for being our photographer for the day!}!  a huge thanks to my sister kim for diy-ing all the vases and arranging all the beautiful flowers!!!  a big thanks to my parents for letting me host it at their house!

the morning started out with a trip to corner bakery, we had the food catered by them, so we swung by to pick the goodies.  we arrived at my parent’s house and the decorating began!  grace was such great help {hc charming was a mission created by me and my p’s to get additional supplies}, she wiped down the chairs, helped me decorate, and set everything up with me!

at noon, the lovely guests started to arrive!  one by one, we greeted in glee and the party began!  we sipped our drinks and socialized for our start of the party.  we finally prepped the food, and enjoyed our meal outside.  thank goodness it wasn’t soooo hot.  it was hot but not as hot as it has been for the past few weeks.  i was so thankful for the temperature being at the tail end of the heat wave!

after the food, the kids got to hit a baby carriage piñata!  who doesn’t like a piñata at a party?!

after noshing on our meals, kim and i prepared the desserts.  it looked quite adorable!  after, we set up the table and i announced to everyone if they wanted to know the gender of the baby?!  of course they said yes!  i told them that they could find the answer in the cupcakes {from magnolia bakery}!  they were so excited!  everyone got up to grab their cupcakes!  once each person had their little treasure, everyone broke open their cupcakes at the same time!

there it was!  pink frosting signifying a baby girl!!!!!!  it was so much fun!

you’ve got mail

my new cubs hat [yay!!!]

my new cubs hat [yay!!!]

i love getting mail.  whether it’s a letter, card, invite, or the best mail of all…packages!!!  i never use to be an online shopper but this past holiday, i’ve gotten hooked!  i typically love shopping within a store, feeling the merchandise and trying on {so much fun!}.  much to my hubby charming’s dismay, i have been on a roll with the clicker button on ‘place my order’.  honestly, it’s really random stuff i’m buying; shoes, clothes, cupcake liners…

so, i was quite excited to walk up my front door and ta-da, a lovely package waiting for moi!  i eagerly ran upstairs and tore into it.  i was filled with anticipation, knowing it would be the fabulous buy from ebay!  yup, it’s an awesome knit chicago cubs hat!  it’s my new favorite thing!  sometimes it’s just the little things that can put a little twinkle in your eyes.  a little pep in your step.
